Tapping the Spacebar to play

Question

When I first load a project I can tap the Spacebar to play the composition but after a few edits that command will only prerender. not play? The only way I can get tapping the spacebar to play is to save, re-open and then it works? I'm very new at AE. What am I doing wrong?

Well, first off: I would strongly advise you actually read the online help on how this stuff works/ is supposed to work. It could be perfectly normal, given how AE uses caches and its limited hardware acceleration may not always be able to do even basic stuff in realtime. For the rest much more info is needed like actual details about the comp, footage, preview settings, hardware and so on. And again, manage your expectations. AE is not a realtime tool most of the time.
