Text is a path

Question

Hi, just a simple question, if anyone is expert enough to know the answer:

I have a text that I have to edit but the text is not actually a text, rather a set of paths and a fill. Why is it like that and is it possible to change it instead of creating a new text? Thanks

Someone simply converted it. Whether that's to retain the appearance while distributing the project to people who may not have the font or if there's a genuine technical requirement like an effect working on mask paths we honestly can't know. You'd have to be much more specific. In any case, this clearly sounds like you need to study up on the AE basics and then re-type the text. Things just can't always be done by downloading a template and chnaging a text layer.
