Text Spawning Far From Anchor Point

When using the Text tool, when I click to start writing text, the text spawns way far from the anchor point, usually far to the right. This is true no matter how I have the text aligned. Anybody know what's up? Do I have some strange setting enabled?

See attached screenshot: Where the anchor point is is where I clicked to create my title. As you can see, the text is far to the right.

Correct answer Rick Gerard

Check the Anchor Point on your Text layer. It should be set to 0, 0.

What happens if you create a new text layer by using the Layer/New/Text menu? The anchor point should be at 0, 0, and the position at the comp center.  Baseline shift in the Character Panel will raise or lower the text above or below the anchor point. Paragraph justification changes the anchor point from the left to the center or to the right of the text on the Horizontal plane. Your screenshot clearly shows a problem with the anchor point.

That was it. Turns out Baseline Shift and First Line Indent were both at values other than 0. 🤦‍♂😂

Thanks for your help!
