I have downloaded a bunch of presets off YouTube videos to use in After Effects, but every single preset that I try to use says:

This favorite contains a reference to a missing effect. Please install the following effect to restore this reference.

"S_DissolveShake"

The term in quotation marks changes depending on the preset used and often is similar to the preset name. I don't have this problem with the built-in effects in after-effects. Makes me think that I have imported the presets wrong or something. I dragged and dropped them into the User Presets folder.

The presets you downloaded use third-party effects that are not native/included with After Effects. That one you listed is from the Sapphire plugins from Boris FX.

You didn't do anything wrong but other than buy the add on or don't use those presets there isn't much anyone can suggest. Sorry.
