Question

Time Remapping Nested Comp Isn't Very Precise

For years, I have been having trouble with time remapping nested comps. I will make a comp for the mouths of a cartoon character, and nest the mouth comp into the character comp. When I use time remapping, controlled by keyframes, AE doesn't always show the correct frame.

Is there a way to force AE to display the correct frame?

(The only solution I've found so far is to render the mouth comp out as a Quicktime file, and put that in the character comp instead. The time remapping is precise with the movie file, but not the nested comp.)

I would advise to use this setup:

What is the benefit of creating the Null Object, and connecting the Time Remap to the Null Object's Rotation Value, as opposed to simply typing the keyframes on the Time Remap?

you convert time to frames or else it will get more difficult to be change the frames between poses. it's explained in the tutorial. as for the null, you can use the shortcut for rotation + and - and quickly move between poses.
