Question

Timeline Repeating

I don't know why but the timeline started to repeat itself over and over. I was trying to decrease the lag and followed some tutorials on youtube where I changed some things in the preferences and display. Now when I press space the video I have plays for a couple seconds and restarts even if I move the Current Time Indicator to a different place in the video. The customer support is out on the weekend so if anyone has any info on this I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you in advance!

You could have changed the Comp Panel resolution to full or had Comp Resolution set to auto and changed the Magnification Rato. Your disk cache could be full.

After Effects relies on calculating every pixel on every layer and storing them in memory and on the disk cache for playback. Without knowing the comp details, your OS and system details, and the effects being used, my best guess is in the first paragraph.

Thanks for your reply! I checked and I did have my Comp Resolution set to auto and my Magnification Ratio is set to 20%. I also tried to empty my disk cache as well but it did not seem to work. I attached a video that might help a little bit. My OS is Windows 10, Processor is AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core, and the Installed Ram is 16 GB. If any more information is needed I am more than happy to provide it.

Thank you for all of your help!

You have a 6-minute 60fps comp with an MP4 in the timeline with no effects. I'm not sure what you are trying to do with the video, but AE is not an NLE, and you are probably never going to get a 6-minute preview with only 16GB of RAM. AE is not an NLE, and playback uses the available system resources instead of processor power for playback.

Are you new to After Effects? What are your design goals for the project?
