Question

Timwarp Shortens Clip

I have a video clip where the first part should be played at full speed, then the rest at half. When I do that, some of the end of the clip is not rendered. How do I make sure the full clip is rendered after using timewarp?

Thanks.

    This question is for AfterEffects?

the solution to timewarp on AE to to interpret the footage and change the *loop* to whatever length you may need, if it's a short clip then i generally loop 100 times or 10 times if it's a long clip.

if you've already added it to a sequence before looping it in 'interpret' footage then you need to edit the sequence settings and change the duration to like 5 minutes or however long you may need.

you'll find that the footage will loop so it's a matter of doing your timewarps and once finished then find the end of your loop and just trim it to that size.

i've found that i can use Premiere now to do the timewarp. but it does not have the loop facility so you have to copy and paste onto the sequence and then choose all the clips, right click, and select Nest. then you can add timewarp to your 'nested' sequence.

Yes, Timewarp defaults to the clip playing at half speed without extending the layer Time Span for you.

So... enable Time Remapping before or after applying Timewarp and then extend the tail of the layer Time Span as needed.

It might be worth mentioning that Time Remapping is the older way of chainging the speed of a clip, so it might feel redundant that you’re using Time Remapping and Timewarp together.  Prior to Timewarp, we would have used Time Remapping both to extend the layer Time Span and make the layer play slower or faster.  Now that we have Timewarp, we just need Time Rapping to extend the layer Time Span.  Also, Timewarp is a 3rd party effect that we used to have to purchase separately called Khronos.  It’s awesome to have that included with AE now.

I think I got it. So I do all the time warp work, then at the end use time re-map once to extend the entire layer? Seems cumbersome to have to use 2 features, but sounds like time re-map is a quick step.

    Thanks.

Yes. TW effect does not automatically extend the layer so you need TR for that. it would be great if TR would have an option to work for speed and not just frame/time and automatically extend the layer - like Premiere.
