Top tool bar missing!

I am using the most current version of AE on a Macbook Pro. I also use the software on PC's. Today on the Macbook, the top tool bar is missing--the whole thing is gone! I've tried to reset workspaces and watched many tutorials to no avail. I can't seem to find any tools to do any work on the project. Is this a common issue? Should I delete the app and reinstall it?

    Go to the Window>Workspace>Reset "whatever is selected" to Saved Layout menu. If that does not work try pressing Ctrl/Cmnd + 1 or use the menu to toggle the toolbar off and on. 

     

    All of this is in the user guide and clearly displayed in the Window Menu including the keyboard shortcut to turn on and off several different panels.
