Using AE 25.4.0 (Build 86)after pressing spacebar to play a comp, the play head will move about 5 frames then stops moving. Yet the clip still plays in the comp window. Pressing the spacebar again to stop the animation, the play head suddenly jumps to the point in the timeline where i pressed the spacebar to stop it. None of the properties in the effects control panel update in real time. In order to see the values of animated properties at any given frame, I have actually click into the properties panel, then it updates. The only assets in this comp is a text layer with a few glow effects. I'm using Windows 11, Intel Core i9 (3.2GHz), 64 GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 5080

Installed the "studio" driver and that worked! I didn't even know that was a thing. I thought having the latest driver would take care of it but I guess a studio driver is different.

Hello, I am experiencing bug #2 on Mac Studio, so installing Nvidia drivers will not fix this for me. Any ideas? It’s super annoying to have to double click the properties panel every single time for it to update.

Thanks for reporting this. Since you're on a Mac Studio, the NVIDIA Studio Driver recommendation wouldn't apply in your case.

Could you let us know:

Which version of After Effects you're using?
Which version of macOS you're running?
Which Mac Studio model you have (M1/M2/M3 Max or Ultra)?
Does this happen in every project, including a brand-new project with a single layer, or only in specific projects?

In the meantime, could you also try resetting your After Effects preferences and temporarily disabling any third-party plug-ins to see if the behavior changes? If possible, test with a new blank project as well.

If the issue persists, we'll be happy to investigate further. The more details you can share—including whether this started after updating After Effects or macOS—the easier it will be to determine whether this is a known issue or something specific to your setup.

Thanks for reaching out, Aaron and sorry to hear about your issues.

What version of the GPU driver are you using? Both issues could be related to the GPU. Install the latest Studio driver from the Nvidia website. If that doesn't help, try running After Effects in Safe Mode with third-party plug-ins disabled and test on a new project.

I've already tried other hacks that people have suggested (like undocking panels, disabling multi-frame rendering, restarting computer, restarting AE)

The only assets in this comp is a text layer with a few glow effects. But this happens with every new project I create.
