"U" not working properly

When a layer has something like Trapcode Particular on it and has 2354 categories, so when you alt click something to open the script editing and also to go to the pick whip thing.  Supposed to be able to hit U to isolate the ONLY things active, but AE 23.6 does not do this, it just opens ALL of them at once and is too much to show, so that the other layers are just gone and no way to pick whip things.

How do I fix this, or what did they change that we're supposed to do now to issolate things so that I can actually pick whip stuff?

U works perfectly well on everything else.  Why it's not working on tagged expressions is extremely annoying.

If this isn't fixed or for some reason intentionally broken....I know it worked, because older videos show it working.  So something was changed and not caught.   Then we need the ability to pick whip from the edit control tab as well to avoid this issue.

I can't even "close" the other edit options to try freeing up space to scroll down, because they legit are already closed and just so many options in the timeline tab taking too much space.
