Up rezing from 1K elements to 4K elements

Hi all,

Is there a way to work with rendered out 1K CGI elements in After Effects, rotos, moves, etc. and then just replace them with final 4K CGI elements and have everything as perfect as the 1K comp? I looked into proxies but that would just help After Effects run faster. I would still have to render and rerender and rerender all my elements out in 4K each time with every change requested by the client. A test I did where I just changed the resolution in Composition Settings and dropped the 4K on top of the 1K elements so they would inherite their properties did not work very well, for example, distances a layer moved where not the same. Thanks.

There is any number of "Scale compositions" scripts out there - the one that comes with AE, better ones on sites like AEScripts.com, but of course there will always be extra work involved. Salvaging the existing roto work and such is probably merely a matter of converting stuff into pre-comps and using it as track mattes with scalable layers rather than directly, but similarly there are limitations to that. Other assets can likely simple be rendered out and then scaled up with the detail preserving scaling effect to be re-used. Impossible to be more specific without any idea about what your project actualyl looks like structurally.
