Update to Ae

I am working on a 5 minute animation project that was almost finished. Media Encoder was updated on its own so I was forced to update to Ae 23 too to work with it.  Now all the newest versions of my project freeze the software when I try to open them. Tried reinstalling the previous version of Ae but the same thing happens. I can open very old versions of my project. Ae keeps crashing easily though.

Tried booting, reinstalling, updating nvidia drivers, deleting preferences

It seems the external disc I tried to use for cache was broken, replaced it, and was able to open my project again.
