If you have already animated the original comp and need new layers, the easiest thing to do is to import the PSD again as a composition retaining layer size, open the new comp, select, and then copy the new layers. Return to the original comp and paste the new layers into that comp. This will maintain their original position in the PSD. 

 

You can then delete the new comp that was created from the modified PSD file, select the original comp in the Project panel, select File/Dependencies/Reduce Project, and all duplicate PSD layers in the Project Panel will be removed. You will probably have to drag the new layers to the original folder from the first import, but your project will be cleaned up, and everything should stay synced up.

You can selectively import individual layers. Otherwise import the file again, run a File --> Dependencies --> Consolidate.
