Question

Upgrading my system Mac m1. What to get? What is enough?

So I want to get one of the new M1 Mac computers but I heard and read somewhere that getting the computer with most cores doesn’t really make sense since there is a limitation on after effects and the number of cores after effects can utilize.

At this time I work on a very old  and maxed out  Mac Pro.   So it’s definitely time to upgrade

If anyone has any knowledge on the subject I would really appreciate hearing from you

Honest opinion: Don't bother. At this point OS X and AE itself are so buggy, you could easily wait another six months until these things have been straightened out and you can actually get work done. Otherwise there's plenty of posts here on this forum alone on what AE likes and whatnot, typically under subject headings like "How do I optimize performance?" and similar, though I guess with M1 Macs these considerations are less relevant, given how limited the customization options are and on the AE end of course the new Multiframe Rendering will change a few rules. Anyway, that's just my observation as a non-Mac-person rroaming these here forums every day...

Hi there Mylenium

Thanx for taking the time. I really apriciate it!

I was considering waiting for that same reason but as my, now soon to be, 12 year old machine is sooooo slow in every tiny task I ask of it, and is not copatible with any of the new CC versions, I wanted to go ahead with the order. Optimizing the performance further on this machine would be like trowing flower in the direction of the wind. The only thing left to do is go for a 16gb GPU, and this will set tme back with about 1000 dolaers and It wont do much, as far as I know.

I look over the other posts here

Thanx again 🙂
