Using Font Drags AE to a Snail's Pace

Sound's crazy, right?!? But... I could't figure out why my simple HD comp was almost impossible to work with. Two .psd files, two .ai files, one .mxf video file, 2 shape layers and a text layer. Transforming anything in the comp was a test of patience, until I removed the text layer. I thought I was crazy until I spoke with a colleague that had the same issue. Unfortunately this specific .ttf font is required for the project. Anyone else have this happen?

Yes, enabling Faux Bold and/or Faux Italic can increase the render time for a Text Layer by about four to five times what it would take if these are left off, especially if keyframing a Text Animator with Opacity changing over time.

Try to use a font that has Bold or Italic in the font family. With some fonts, a slight Stroke with the same color as the Fill can be used to increase the line weight to cheat what Bold would look like (but watch for inadvertantly closing the enclosed space for letters like o, b, p, and a.). Also, a slight Skew can be applied via the Text Animator options to cheat what Italic would look like.

Nope, doesn’t sound crazy at all. After Effects can be very particular with problematic font files. What font is it? Maybe you can find a different version of it?
