Question

Using range selector with two text layers (MOGRT)

Im trying to create a mogrt (so I can change the text) to premiere with two lines of text on top of each other, appearing letter by letter (the second line is supposed to appear after the first one).  Usually I do this with range selector, but now I want to have different font etc in the other line. But if you create a mogrt like this, the other line's format settings wont stay the way I want to. So I need to separate the lines to two text layers in order for the format settings to stay the way I want them to be. Is there a way to use range selector with two text layers, or is there some other animator that could do the trick?

Hey @persoona,

If you want to keep this as a single text layer, I think text style expressions may be the solution for you.

Here's a reference: https://ae-expressions.docsforadobe.dev/text/style/ and this tutorial does a excellent job of explaining them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yG8UbiKKeYw.  There's a linked download in the description to the AEP shown where the Per Line comp can be tweaked with your typewriter animator, and adding in the font formatting expressions to customize the lines from one another. What's in the Character Panel will be your top line, what you add as an expression will override those settings for the second line.

Do you have one input box for the two lines, or is it two different inputs?  Are you designing a lower thirds caption, sort of like:

If you have two text layers (and two inputs), they should convert with two separate font settings.  If not, it's probably possible to use per character styling in expressions, but I'd need some time to put that together if needed.

Thanks for reaching out, persoona.

Unfortunately, I can not think of any other workaround than separating the text into two layers. Another user has created a feature request for this functionality. I'd recommend adding your vote: https://adobe.ly/4lgOltg
