Version 23.6 - After Effects Error: zero denominator in ratio multiply. ( 17 :: 18 ) - spacebar prev

I just upgraded to AE 23.6 from 23.5 and any previews I attempt using Numpad 0 work fine, but when using the spacebar (play with audio) is causing this error to pop up:

After Effects Error: zero denominator in ratio multiply. ( 17 :: 18 )

Clicking OK results in having to click it multiple times.  Downgrading the 23.5 resolved the issue.

When showing the waveform the error pops up again. Once I hide the wave form and select another layer the error dissapears.

Hi @abeld15671703,

You're hitting a similar but different issue. Check out this thread for more details: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-bugs/after-effects-error-zero-denominator-comparing-ratios-17-16-error-in-ae-version-23-6/idi-p/13997907

Hope it helps.

Thanks,

Nishu

Just discovered that the bug pops up on the non-beta AE as well when I import a video clip and drag it on the timeline. Once I pre-composed the video clip I no longer get this error.

I've had the exact same issue on Windows 11 and on Venture 13.4 - downgrading until it's solved

I'm running Windows 11 Pro with 64Gb RAM, Intel Core i9 with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (12 Gb).  I have a Stream Deck+ as well as FXConsole and AEJuice installed.

I noticed it on the first project I created after updating and thought it might be that (I had imported some high frame rate video).  After trying various fixes and nothing working, after a restart I created a new project and comp and got the same error.  At that point, I downgraded and the problem didn't recur.

Hi @ShiveringCactus,

If possible, could you share the project file (with media) to test at our end? Also, can you try the workaround in this thread that works for a similar error?

Feel free to DM me the download link.

Thanks,

Nishu

Hi Nishu,

I accidentally accepted the CC upgrade prompt the other day, back to 23.6 and the problem no longer occurs.  Looking at the other thread, I think it's likely I've enacted the same workaround but by rolling back and then updating.

I'd be happy to share the original media, but when it occurred, I also tried with a very simple project and had the same result.  That's when I downgraded.

Edit:

To clarify, the workaround I was referring to was resetting preferences.  I didn't need to go near the renderer.

Hi @ShiveringCactus,

Thank you for reporting this issue. What are your system specs and OS version? Do you experience the error on playback in all projects, or only in some?

@Robert25196418ycal, I'd pose the same questions to you as well. Perhaps we can see what you and @ShiveringCactus have in common that is causing these errors.

Thanks for reporting this issue and for any further information you can provide,
