video footage not coming up in preview

I downloaded a video to use in an edit, and for what ever reason its not coming up as a mp4 file. at first i thought it was because its quality was in 4K, so i downloaded it again in 1080 and 720 and i still did not work. It shows up like an mp3, with no frame rate. audio still plays.
