This is a known issue when applying an Animation Preset via Adobe Bridge, with AE 15.1.1 - TAKE NOTE OF THE WORKAROUND SOLUTION.

Known issues in After Effects CC (15.1)

You can receive an error message, “Can't import file ".ffx": unsupported filetype or extension. ( 0 :: 1 )” when you double-click an animation file in Bridge CC, to apply it to After Effects.

Workaround: Right-click the preset and select Open, instead of using double-click.

I suspect two things. First, the unsupported files are Quicktime movies. Second, you are using After Effects 15.1.1.

If this is true, you should be made aware that the latest Creative Cloud Update dropped support for many older, but still widely-used Quicktime codecs. To use your files, you must revert to an earlier AE version. I recommend that you install the AE update that was released BEFORE April.
