What are Social Media presets 30 fps and not 29.97 fps?

Question

I notice that amongst the presents offered for making a new composition, there is a category called social media and they are all 30 fps. Why is this? Thanks.

It's commonly accepted practice, though in the end it really doesn't matter. People will use whatever they want. Fractional framerates just don't make much sense if your content is never played through an actual video device.

You could go back to the primordial soup of how television for an explanation of how "crooked" framerates came about due to the limitations of signal processing back then, but yes, it mostly has to do with old TV standards barely being relevant anymore. Using whole frame framerates also avoids certin issues with drawing on computers since always a full discrete frame is rendered instead of having to interpolate "between" frames when an odd frame falls into the sync gap of your screen. You could endlessly dive into this. Anyway, as already mentioned it doesn't matter that much as luckily we live in a day and age where even cheap phones have enough power to fix or avaid these issues with dynamic and adaptive rendering/ drawing.
