I used to just copy docakble scripts into the ScriptUI Panel folder manually. But I tried the 'install ScriptUI Panel' menu option today. Restarted Ae and it worked fine. But when I looked in the ScriptUI Panel folder there's no copy of my script there ??? On install a dialog said the script was successfully copied to my preferences folder, but i can't find it anywhere and I can't find any other copy with the same name or any hidden files. what's going on? how do I remove a file I can't even find ?

The menu command installs the script in the Ae preferences. The exact path depends on your OS and Ae version.
On my Mac, on Ae 25.4 the scripts are copied to
~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/25.4/Scripts/ScriptUI Panels/

annoyingly, I still can't search for the file even when I know it exists.

if I do a search for the exact filename it only shows the original file and if I add 'file visibilty' criteria to the search it wierdly comes back with nothing for either visible or invisible, and if include 'system files' only the original shows up... so annoying!
