What type of category does this video fit into? Is this a product reel/demo? I'm trying to find how much this would cost to make in AE. Am I in the correct forum? If not, can someone please redirect me where I should post my question.

Thank you.

Correct answer @mj

Hi @Stefan Cargoski ,

You, product demo showreel is on point imho.

Since it's a software product, there are a lot of screen recordings. They've been made 3D layers in AE.

The V12 metallic type can easily be done with the C4D lite plugin that ships with AE.

WRT how much it will cost for production I won't speak for others, so if you get someone on this forum to quote you, ace.

If not, try Fiverr.

Let us know how you go.

If I were given a storyboard or script for that video and wanted to produce it to look exactly like your sample, I would estimate that the post-production and effects work would take somewhere between one and two hours per shot. There are 18 different shots in the video, so my estimate would be around 20 hours in post.

There was some live-action footage in the video. Replicating that would take actors, probably makeup, maybe costumes, some lighting, and a location, so you could quickly end up needing a crew of four or five people, the gear, and the location.

To accurately screen capture all of the product shots in the video, you would need someone experienced with the program and probably a couple of hours of their time. Some of the shots may need to be animated using illustrations. That could easily take many hours per second finished video.

Then there is the music. Don't forget to charge for that.

So the price range could be anywhere from two days to four or five, and hourly rates for professionals run between $75 and $250 per hour in the US. It all depends on who you hire.

If you want to find someone to produce that kind of video for you, start by figuring out how much you would be willing to pay and send out or publish a request for proposals. I've been in the motion picture and television business for a very long time and I have only worked on a couple of productions where the budget did not determine the kind of shots we could create.
