when I open gradient editor the colour choices are now very limited

when i open gradient editor the colors are limited on the strip and the hex code box is highlighted up until recently the strip color. ranged all visible colors now it is only blue to light blue  any ideas how to fix?

In your screenshot, the Gradient Editor is set to show Blue.  Of the R (Red), G (Green), B (Blue) tick boxes, "B" is enabled.

Click the H (Hue) tick box and you should see the full range of colors.

 

This isn't an "after thought".  It's user controls for selecting color that mirrors Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro.

thanks i'll try that. this is a new development for me so i'll  persevere. (afterthoughts is a youtube series)

well i solved my own problem by restarting in safe mode   checkout youtube "after effects afterthoughts"
