Question

When using Dynamic Link, clips from PP are different in AE

I'm using After Effects to apply some transitions to a series of clips in Premiere Pro via Dynamic Link, but when I use the "Replace with Composition from After Effects" workflow, the clips show up differently in After Effects.

For example, some clips just become still images while others are off by dozens of frames (it shows footage from a previous point in the clip). Each clip is still the same length, it's just the footage within them that changes. What's even stranger, is that it doesn't happen to all the clips, just certain ones. I'm not using any effects on the clips, and both my PP project and my AE project are set to 30fps. I've examined the sequence in both AE and PP as well as a fully exported piece of media and the problem persists across all versions. Even when all the clips are nested into a single clip they still become misaligned.

I tried looking up this problem online but Dynamic Link has so many issues that I was unable to find a solution to this particular problem. I'm on the latest releases of the Mac versions of both Premiere Pro and After Effects. Does anyone know what the issue might be? Thanks.

These are simply bugs that crept up in lieu of removing legacy Quicktime support. Not much you can do about it until these issues get fixed.

Yeah, that's what I figured... I ended up just avoiding Dynamic Link and exporting from Premiere Pro and re-importing it to After Effects. It took longer, but at least it worked.

Thanks for the response!
