Hi,

I'm a beginner.

I want to learn how to animate a 2-d drawing to make it 3-d then animate the 3-d.

I would be grateful if someone could recommend the right product.

thank you,

Martin

I agree that we probably won't have many useful suggestions unless you can share some references about what you're trying to achieve. It's possible the style you're after can absolutely be done in AE, or that may be a terrible choice for it. If you're able to share some of the art you plan to animate, that will help us give you better options.

Thank you Mylenium.

I have the full adobe suite so I’m happy to learn something new just need to know; what’s the best tool to get me started.

This is what I want to do. I may not be using the correct language, apologies.

Step 1. 2-d pencil drawing of seagull. Front elevation. Face turned slightly to RHS

Step 2. Duplicate and mirror 2 d image.

Step 3. Manipulate 2-d image to appear 3d (OR now the birds face is straight on)

Step 4  Manipulate image to appear as if the bird is taking off.

Step 5 Merge animation into live video of seagull in flight.

I appreciate this will require mastering several layers of knowledge and that will take lots of time. But where should I start?

Thank you for any help.

Entirely depends what style you want. Obviously AE is not a full 3D program and outside some basics like extruded text and shape layers as well as Importing pre-made 3D objects using Cineware and other plug-ins it doesn't have a genuine 3D space with full geometry. Everything else is just 2D postcards in a 3D space. Either way, you will have to be much more specific for anyone to give you conclusive advice on how to best proceed. Such generic "Can I...?" questions eitehr go nowhere or only end up in endless threads that cause more confusion than enlightenment.
