Question

Why are my renders and previews now taking so long?

Hi, I have a new MacBookPro M1Max 64GB
I am building HUDs one minute long with not many layers, 2 short movie clips and back in June I seem to remember that the preview while working on the HUD rendered surprisingly fast. Renders of thje 1 min comp took about 10-15min. I took a break from the project and now am shocked that the same comp took 2 hours to render and previews are painfully slow. I did upgrade to 22.5.
Currently I am working on a small screen text animation, where there are 4 layer compy with very little on them. The comp is 15 sec long. The render just took 9min.
Is there a simple explanation for this or am I missing somthing? I'm a long-time editor and intermediate level AE user.

Hi @fjordseeker ,

If previewing your compositions is also slow then you can turn on the Composition Profiler to see which layers are taking the most time. Click the little snail button in the lower left of the Timeline Panel.

Cheers,

Jason

Did you render using AE or Media Encoder?

Try changing the Projects settings as follow - to Go to File > Project settings > General > Video Rendering & PlayBack > Change to mercury Software only instead of mercury GPU Acceleration (Metal).
