Question

Why can't I scrub through a RAM preview?

I'm in AE 2025 on Windows 11.  I have a RAM preview of my entire timeline, solid green bar all the way across, and it plays back perfectly in realtime, yet when I try to scrub the timeline, the green bar disappears even though the preview is still there if I want to play the timeline again, just not there if I want to scrub it.  If the preview is already calulated in RAM and all the frames are there, why can't I scrub through them? Seems like it should work.  Thanks!

Please try holding down Control while scrubbing and see if that helps

I tried holding down Control, but it made no difference. Thank you, though, Rob!

That's not ideal. Please share the following details so that we can understand the issue better.

  1. What are your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version)?
  2. Does it happen in all the projects or a specific project?
  3. A screen recording that shows the problem.

We're here to help, just need more info.

Thanks,

Nishu

Thank you for your reply, Nishu.  My system specs are i9-14900K, 192 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 Pro 23H2 Build 22631.4602.  It happens a lot of the time, but not all the time. When it happens, I try purging disk cache and memory, then rebuilding the preview, but it doesn't help. I'll pay attention to what files do it and when, and post a recording when it happens next.

Thanks for the details. Are you working with multiple monitors? Do you have the Nvidia G-Sync enabled? If so, can you try disabling it?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Nishu
