Why has mxf export been removed?

Thanks for writing in. MXF export hasn’t exactly been removed, but workflows have shifted a bit. After Effects itself has limited native support for MXF as an output format, and in most cases, MXF export is handled through Adobe Media Encoder rather than directly from AE. If you need MXF, the recommended workflow is to send your comp to Media Encoder and choose an MXF preset there.
