Question

Why is render so slow in newer versions of after effects?

About 2 months ago I updated my After Effects from 24.5 to 25.5. Editing and all of that are working pretty well, but when it comes to rendering, it's super slow. When I was using the 24.5 version of AE, rendering was pretty fast, but now I have to wait over 10 minutes to render a short video of 2 minutes.

I've tried multiple things: updating my drivers, clearing cache, enabling the multi-frame rendering feature, and none of these things did much. My PC specs are definitely more than good enough and it doesn't make any sense for render to be that slow, I'll list them below:

13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-13600K
32GB DDR4
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

Waiting for it to finish rendering is taking too much of my time away, if someone could help me with this problem that would be awesome, thanks!

    Hi there,

Thanks for the details. One thing I'd like to clarify: is the exact same composition significantly slower to render in 25.5 than it was in 24.5?

You can also use the Composition Profiler to see which layers and effects are taking the most time to render. In the Timeline panel, enable the Render Time column and check whether a particular layer, effect, or plug-in is responsible for most of the slowdown.

If possible, compare the same composition and output settings in 24.5 and 25.5. That will help determine whether this is a version-specific performance issue or something within the composition itself.

    Thanks,
    Kevin
