Question

Write keyframes with live MIDI data/control devices

Has anyone seen this done in AE?

For example the workflow might be something like: selecting your controller device and channel, setting a loop region and writing keyframes for the specified paramter with knobs, sliders, buttons, other software with inter application MIDI, etc.

There was a plug-in to that effect, but I think it has long been abandoned and has never been updated to work with newer versions of AE due to the multitude of changes the preview system has gone through over the years. Perhaps it's still listed on AEScripts.com somehow, but generally it seems that there is very little need for suc ha feature or plug-in, given the technical prerequisites.

That is unfortunate. I'd think the feature would be very desirable in that you could write keyframes just as you move the controller. Just as there is necessity for it in a DAW working with audio paramterers, working with motion paramteres would be potentially more useful. Esepcially for people that aren't great with working with curves or don't want to buy additional plugins to do a little faster than native. The speed at which you could obtain precise movenent in a keyframe based on real movenent timed to an audio que or other motion could be huge, at least for a starting point to then tweak further manually.
