Write on effect with psd files are not working

Hello,

I'm trying to use the write on effect in after effects, using psd files but it doesn't seem to be working. The method I'm using works fine with AI files but the illustrator I'm using for this whiteboard animation job has sent me psd files.

Method I used: double click on the file to open layers panel, use paint brush tool with RGBA and write on. Create my path. Duplicate layer, delete paint effect on that layer and add a generate write effect, making sure it's revealing image, small brush spacing and big brush size. Then I copied the path of first layer to brush position of second layer. Then deleted first layer.

Has anyone had this issue before?

Please let me know if you have a solution!!

Thank you Kevin for responding!
Eventually figured out that the illustrator that was sending me psd files
had made her artboard 1920 by 1080, but each layer size was different and I
think that is what was causing issues.
For future reference, if anyone is having an issue with psd files, the
layer size might be the issue!

Sorry that you are having touble. I would inspect the PSD file to ensure that it meets spec. Perhaps export it in a different format, if you are still having difficulty. I hope the community might offer a better response. In the meantime, check out this tutorial.

Thanks,
Kevin

The different layer sizes in AE were probably caused by the import options you used.

Composition - Retain layer sizes: would result in each Ae layer being based on the content of each PSD layer.

Composition: Would make each layer the same size as the file dimensions.
