xtractor doesnt work with proxies

in after effects 2023

I have a full res EXR Z depth frame, i set proxy to a low res sequence of the same exr format, XTractoR does not detect/use the sequence and displays the original still frame.
I get the same behaviour with the cryptomatte plugin, so i cannot work with any of these passes using proxies. Is there a way around this?
