Improved Freeze Performance with Rotobrush!

Rotobrush can now take advantage of pre-existing propagated frames when performing the Freeze process.

Our internal testing indicates Freeze is now 1.6x to 5.8x faster to complete. Performance results can vary depending on platform, OS version, and GPU. Older GPUs will see the biggest performance gains. Performance gains are reduced when using the Refine Edge Tool (1.2x to 1.6x faster).

This update is now available in After Effects 24.2 Beta builds, starting with build 71, and is supported with both Rotobrush 2.0 and 3.0.

If you are a Rotobrush user, we’d love for you to try it out and help us by answering the following questions:

  • Is Freeze faster for you and for your projects? If not, which projects perform worse?
  • Do you experience any frames unexpectedly re-propagating during a Freeze?
  • Are there any unexpected slowdowns or increased use of memory during the Freeze process?
  • Are projects with frozen Rotobrush layers reloading and rendering correctly?
  • Is freeze rendering correctly for Rotobrush layers with multiple spans?
  • Is freeze rendering correctly when propagating forward/reverse from base frame?

The AE Engineering team is looking forward to hearing from you. Please use this post to report and discuss any issues specific to Roto Brush Freeze.

Note: A previous version of this forum post did not contain the performance information for Refine Edge or information about the performance increases being more significant on older GPUs.

The Rotobrush 3 improvements are INSANE! Working as it should on my 4080 OC.
