Installing today's v27 Beta kills Premiere dynamically linked comps

For the past couple of weeks I’ve ben working on a job that has a Premiere project and a DL AE project. This morning I updated AE to v27. Then when I loaded that same Premiere project, it just showed the ‘media offline’ slate where the DL comps should be. I tried to relink one of the comps, but Premiere threw the error “After Effects (beta) must be installed”. I guess Premiere 26.x is not talking to AE 27 yet.

I’ve just installed AE 26.5 (beta) from the CC app, then relaunched Premiere and loaded that same project, and it all seems to sync up ok. I guess I should wait until Premiere gets updated too before updating AE!

But that now gives me a giant headache because I’ve worked on another project today in AE v27, which now won’t open in AE 26!

    Hi @hellopaul4,

Thanks for posting about this. Yes, Dynamic Link does not work if the different video applications have different major version numbers (even if they are both Beta versions). This is the same as with the non-Beta release versions. This is why the older Beta builds remain available for download.

The same is true of projects saved in a newer major version. For backward compatibly, you can can use the File > Save As > Save a Copy as 26.x… to save a project that will be compatible with 26.x.

We know that the Betas overwrite each other on install, but it is still important that they behave the same as the release versions for both Dynamic Link and project versions.

Sorry about the frustration, and we appreciate you testing the Beta versions.
