I have an issue when publishing my movie in virtual mode. IT TAKES FOREVER!! By attaching this code can anyone see why this movie takes such a long time to load??? The total size is 30k and loads external swf's but it takes a while to load those other smaller swfs' any ideas?

32k isn't much. but yes, you can decrease your swf file size by moving images outside your swf.. and you can, therefore, decrease the load time of your main swf by doing just that. but then you'll need to load your images and that will take some additional time.

if set-up properly, moving the images outside your swf will speed initial loading of your swf and, while the user is busy doing whatever, you can load your images.

but overall the file size of the swf plus the outside images is likely to be somewhat greater than the size of the swf with all the images. and the loading time of the swf plus the loading time of all the images is likely to be somewhat greater than your original load time.

pretty unlikely to help the op from 14 years ago, especially because it's not a canvas issue.

Thanks kglad for the insightful response. I will have to keep compressing and possibly make as many graphics as possible in Flash rather than importing from Photoshop.

if your swf is 32k, it should start playing within 6seconds when emulating a 56k connection. does it?

Yes it does. If referencing a external XML file to load images and description will this cut down on swf file size? Sorry for such entry-level questions. I would hate to add a preloader for every external swf that I have.

that's the flash test environment. and what download settings are you emulating? (

Oh OK thanks kglad. We're emulating 56k download speeds. My professor has given us that download speed as a requirement. A 32k file take that long on 56k or is my code just not efficient?

what's "virtual mode"?

It's what my teacher calls when you hit Ctrl + Enter twice and it publishes as if it were on the web.
