Adobe Bridge 2020 will not import the .CR2 files from my Canon 40D

Adobe Bridge 2020 will not import the .CR2 files from my Canon 40D. 

Instead, I get the error message "This device does not contain any supported media".  This despite about 100 cr2 files in the camera.  Any suggestions?
