Question

All videos lost their associated keywords overnight

I spent the last three days "keywording" videos that are stored on an external HD.  This morning I realize that when I click through to the folder the videos are in and click on the video thumbnail, all the keywords I have associated (or tagged) with that video aren't "checked off" anymore.  It is like the vidoe lost its associated keywords and all my work of the last three days (probably 300 videos) has been lost.  

 

Before anyone blames the hard drive, it works perfectly in all other actions and assigments.  My Mac doesn't have problem seeing it, reading it, or working with it.  Adobe Bridge also (obviously) finds it and "sees" the folder structure as well as the videos.  

 

This is scary obviously, because that is literally the only reason I considered using Bridge to tag my 5 TB footage with keywords to find and use those videos.

    Video metadata isn't well supported, not just by Adobe. This is usually to do with the video "wrapper" format which may not accept metadata or only limited metadata.

     

    What exact video file format is this? What is the file extension?

    Hi,

    Most of them .mov. But here's the update and the part where it has
    nothing to do with "outside the wire" (a.k.a it cannot possibly be Adobe's
    fault) reasons. Lightroom Classic "reads" the almost keywords perfectly!

    I uninstalled and installed Bridge but the problem persisted.

    So question, is there any way I could have messed something up in the
    settings or in the way I applied the keywords?

    I am not able to recreate the problem you are having. I think the first thing to do is to confirm that the metadata is saved in the files.  

     

    Select one of the files and go to  "File Info" --> "Basic" --> "Raw Metadata" 

    This is the XMP metadata embedded in the file. Look for the <dc:subject> section and see if it contains your expected keywords. You can copy the entire raw metadata text and paste it in a reply here so we can evaluate it.

     

    There are other types of metadata in files. Video files have their own standards besides XMP, but if you saved keywords in Bridge, they should have been saved in the XMP metadata. Once we know what's in the XMP, we can begin to figure out why you are not seeing the keywords.

    Actually, I just looked at the "File Info" --> "Basic" --> "Keywords" and the field is empty.  Also the stars I gave the video are 'gone'.  What did I do wrong?
