I have over 300 .avi files that need to be moved into folders in my favourites (left column) but i keep getting a Moving file message that doesn't move past 0%. Does anyone know why  its happening or how to achieve my goal?

Hi, @Kirsten35837203qgz0, are you trying to move the files or the folder containing the files. If you're doing the former, try doing the latter. Also, be aware that a new folder can only be added below the default folders.

Hi, @Kirsten35837203qgz0, Yeah, I think I see a number of issues there. Let me see if I can get you going straight.

First, do you see that line under "Folders" and not "Favorites?" That means that you are in the Folders Panel, not the Favorites Panel.

Earlier today I was working on a project (writing an instruction blog on how to make a specific woodworking jig). I think I can use that to show you how you might do what I did to accomplish what you want. I took all of my images and had them in the master folder. Then I made three sub-folders in this original folder. I then renamed them where they were with the names: (1) the jpg images I was using, (2) the original images (DNGs) that were used, and (3) the original images that I was not going to use.

Then I went to each folder, right-clicked on the folder, and selected "Open in New Content Panel."

When I finished, my Content Panel looked like this:

 As you can see, there are very few images in the original folder right now becuase as I used them, I moved them into the proper folder. I did that by mousing down on the image(s) and draging the mouse over to the proper folder. I then held over that folder's name until that folder opened up. Then I moved the mouse (and the file(s) down over the conent region and then let go. The files were then moved to the proper folder.

So, the process is:

  • select and mouse down;
  • drag up to the folder's name;
  • hold for a moment;
  • once that folder is the active folder drag down;
  • let go.

If you do the same by creating the years you want/need for your files, open them in respective folders, you'll be able to do the same thing.

Now, ONE IMPORTANT THING! If you look at the image above, you see a line underneath the first title. That means that that is the name of the folder that is the active folder. If that line is underneath any other folder's name, that means that THAT is the active folder. There is a certain amount of Zen to this process because you do have to wait a moment for the active folder to change. But this pause is NO different than moving a layer or image in Photoshop to a different image.

Let me know if I need to explain anything further and do let me know if this works for you.

Good luck!
