Question

Batch Append XMP to TIFFs

Is there a script or batch command I may be missing that will Append the IPTC info to processed TIFFS from XMPs of the same name (in another directory) in witch the XMP info was created by entering IPTC info for RAW files in Bridge?.

As it stands now I have to manually do this one by one using "File Info" if the RAW file was converted with another converter other than Camera RAW or I want to update the metadata (catalog) after the fact because of a time crunch.

It's coming. A friend is working on it.

Jorge,

I have a friend whos working on this now. The script will synchronize metadata from an XMP file to all files of the same name in the same folder.

Bridge has limitations on what metadata it can write unless they are being written from a template. The script will use the XMP file as a metadata template. To get the other features you and the others are looking for (picking individual metadata elements to synchronize, going from JPG to TIF), it would require the generation of a template file. It's not impossible to do, but it's a BIG job. She might take that one on later, but she's got her own list of priorities as well.

Hey Bob, really appreciate all your help. Any progress with this script? Thank again!

OK I've been bashing on at my metadata problems. Ideally Bob, if you are working on this, it would be great if there were some means to pick which metadata is copied and replaced, and which is retained. For example, if I have three copies of the same image, one a .nef, one a tiff and one a jpeg, and one or more is a different size, then obviously I don't want the size and file type fields overwritten. But it would be handy to be able to specify a mapping which would include/exclude fields as a user function.

Any progress on this, or a timetable? Roughly?

Just another vote for the same feature. Should be able to handle the following transfers:

Raw to Tiff
Raw to Jpeg
Jpeg to Raw
Tiff to Raw

But this script would just be a patch to the underlying problem with Bridge. When a raw and jpeg/tiff file of the same image (e.g. DCS_1000.nef and DCS_1000.jpg) are in the same directory, Bridge should treat them as one file and apply any metadata edits to both. Furthermore, Bridge should only disply one version of the file (raw or jpeg) and allow you to pick which version to use as the default display (raw or jpeg).

Jorge,

Please give us a little time here. It's on our list to do, there's a meeting on it today.

The script you're looking for will take some time. Adobe Exchange is one place people post scripts, but there are others out there. A Google search wouldn't be a bad idea. Scripts we post are on Exchange and ASN (adobe developer support).

Bob, if Adobe or someone else developed such script where would one download it. I can't tell you how important this is for us. It seems like such a basic function of any image management application and is offered by all other image management apps on the market. Unfortunately we are now looking toward possibly another vendor. With no assurance of such capabilities now or in the near future in Bridge we are wondering if a time and money investment now in XMP is not a loosing proposition financially..

I have exactly the same need. This seems like such a simple thing to want to do, but there is no obvious way to automate it. I've racked my brains about this and tried several things.

You can't use a recorded action in Photoshop to save the XMP data from one file so that you can append or update the other file because you can't record a "save" in File Info.

It's very frustrating not being able to automate something which is so simple to do on a one-by-one basis.
