Question

Bride and camera raw are rubbish on an M1 Mac and Adobe support is non-existent

Hi,

I have been noting down problems with Bridge on my M1 Macbook pro... and I can find no answers/support from Adobe. This forum procedure is not the way way for a professional company to operate. It is just a way of saving money.

These are the problems I have which didnt happen on my PC version....

1. it crashes a lot (such as when removing a memory card or sometimes creating apparently duplicated files in the viewer, which only go on clering the cache).

2. you cannot edit captions while it is batch processing pictures.

3. changes to a caption template are not always saved, meaning you always have double check everything when using an adjusted caption. If you forget this can lead to embarrassing uploading errors with clients.

4. file info the boxes are too small to edit captions properly, on a pc you can drag the box wider to get a better view... but not on a mac!?

5. there continues to be no spell checker.

6. there used to be an option in C Raw to decide whether brush and other adj were applied to the current image or to all selected (this has gone) as has the ability to remember the last used adjustment setting for the adjustment brush.

As i said this is not the place for such a question/problem list. But the pathetic state of adobe help leaves no option. Albeit, I sadly do not expect to solve any of these issues!!!

Hi, @guyb5286493

I'm using a Mac Studio (M1); I've kept my OS up to date and Bridge up to date.

1) I've had one crash since Bridge 13 was released, and I use it daily.

2) Yes, this is an issue that Adobe is working on.

3) I've not experienced that (but I do not do it often, so take that as you wish). Oh, one thought: are you clicking out of the Description field before pressing OK. In some applications (from any vendor), placed content may not be locked in if you do not leave the field.

4) When I drag the File Info… window wider, the fields expand in width. When I drag a given field's bottom handle down, they expand in height. Which field(s) are you referring to?

5) There never has been a spell checker in Bridge. Since I am both a sloppy typist and a dreadful speller, when in need, I always type in (say) Word, then Copy and Paste. On the other hand, Grammarly does work within Bridge and the Get Info fields. It's not cheap, but if you want your writing to look professional (spelling, grammar, punctuation all correct, etc.), you'd be wise to check it out.

I think the chances of a spell checker in Bridge are about as likely as Adobe giving the Creative Cloud away to anyone who wants it for free. Why? Because Bridge doesn't deal with type (fonts, pixels size, styles, etc.) If they do not have that capability, they do not have the base structure to look at spelling, etc.

6) Not sure what you're talking about here because the "brush," per se, has been replaced by the infinitely more powerful and valuable masking. If you have 2+ images selected in masking and brush a given region in one image, then make an adjustment; it shows up in all images. Plus, masking is more intelligent than just the earlier brush. For example, if you select (say) "Select Subject." it will select the "Subject" in each image — even if they are in different parts of the image.

With all that said, is Bridge at 100%? No, of course not. The Bridge team is small, given an impossible task with very little time, and the Bridge they created looks and acts as one would expect under those conditions. But they are fixing it. A lot slower than I'd like, but it IS getting done. And there is more to come, but like Christmas to a six-year-old, never fast enough. (LOL)

So that you know, I am a volunteer here. I do not work for Adobe; I get no money from Adobe. I am here because I work with Bridge, I know Bridge, and I can help with Bridge. So if you have any specific questions, I'll be glad to help if I can.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for your reply. But I do find it a bit sad that Adobe relies on volunteers to do its work. Paricularly given the thousands of pounds I have given them since I started using them!

Re 1. My software is always up to date and has crashed many many times over the last 12 months and surprise surprise, i use it multiple times a day. As to the very latest version of bridge... we will see. Fingers crossed.

2. That ahs been going on for about 6-12 months and is very frustrating. It doesnt seem to happen when I use a pc. Shame on them.

3. This happens often, but agin not on my pc version, and, yes, i have tried all versions of clicking on and off the particular box, empying it first etc etc. And still it goes wrong, but not all the time! Hence the potential errors.

4. Sorry, I meant the edit metadata template box, which can be dragged on a pc but not a mac. I did just try the info tab, and you are right that can be dragged. But like with the metadata version, the text in any particular box does not get constrained by that box so it goes off into infinty on one line, making it incredibly ahrd to edit. This is made even worse on the metadata version as it cannot be expanded at all!

5. Yes I realise that... it was just a forlorn hope, while I was on. Photo mechanic has one... Adobe has a lot to learn from them.

6. Of course I know waht it does... calling it masking or a brush, makes no difference. Sadly the point is that you used to be able to tick a box that applied all sorts of adjustments just to the image you were working on, or to all. Now you cant. Also you could also choose for any particular adjustment paremeters to be remebered to the next time you used on another image further down the set. Now it all defaults back to zero... so you have to waste time resetting it every time!

And, I am afraid to say you are wrong... it doesnt look and act as I would expect. I would agree with you if they added new features to the old and the product remained broadly as stable as in the previous versions. But unfortunately that is not the case. Someone comes up with a new gimmic (some of which are very good and others not) and then instead of building they replace... one step forwards and another backward elsewhere. This is particularly disapponting as many of the problems are in camera raw which is a basic product in Lightroom too, so should have a massive development team.

Also sadly, although I am grateful for your time, I dont think you are in aposition to solve any of the issues I have raised and unless someone at adobe picks this thread up, then it all seems a bit pointless.

Yours

Guy
