Bridge 2021 Metadata Disappears

Bridge 2012 v: 11.1.1.185 on a Mac running 10.15.7.

Lately I have been having issues when working with photos and adding Metadata. I will enter information in Description, Title, Keywords and after entering the information it will all disappear as though I had never entered anything. I work with thousands of photos and can't begin to express the level of frustration this causes. It doesn't happen on every image, but it happens enough that it is a problem.

Is this a known issue? Is there a solution?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear that the metadata disappears in Bridge. Let us help make this right.

Could you share the following details with us? It would help us narrow down the problem.

  1. What has changed at your end which lead to this problem to surface? Did you update Bridge or the operating system?
  2. Is this an issue with a particular dataset? Does this happen multiple times?
  3. Are the files saved on a network drive or an external drive where?
  4. Could you share a sample file or a video of the issue with us?
  5. What is the cache size that you've set at “Preferences > Cache” ? Can you try increasing the cache size or purging the cache of the files and reapplying the metadata?

Let us know how it goes.
    Regards,

Thank you for the feedback. In response to your questions:

  1. The operating system has been the same for a couple of years. I recieve the regular Creative Cloud updates to Bridge, so it is always running the latest version.
  2. This happens often enough that I took the time to post this. Lately I have been processing hundreds of photos each day so the glitch is quite noticeable.
  3. The majority of the images are on an external drive
  4. The problem does not seem to be image specific as it is quite random.
  5. The current cache size is set to 50GB I purged it once, but given the number of images I am working with prefer not to purge too often.

Would image file type have any impact? The majority are .psd, but I have some .dng images as well.

Thank you.

I'm sorry they never got back to you with a permanent solution, and I still encounter this issue regularly, but I did find a temporary fix. Right click the file that you are having the issue with and select "Purge Cache for Selection." For me this brings back the metadata and the ability to edit it.
