Bridge 2023 and 'Ascribe' - 'How to'

I am unable to ascribe file type associations in the new Bridge. At the moment trying to do this simply opens the program but does not leave a command in place for future reference. For instance Canon Raw files - trying to ascribe them to Bridge is totally unsuccessful - the 'ascription' space remains blank.

I believe this is a WINDOWS UPDATE PROBLEM and not Adobe. For some reason Windows continually prevents the consumer's choice for ascribing file types and unfortunately it updated itself at the same time as I downloaded the new programs from Adobe. But if anyone has a solution I would be delighted to know!!
