Bridge and File ReNaming....

Question

Since I upgraded to 64 bit on my Mac, I have been having issues with Bridge when I re-name files. Using the latest version of Bridge on an imac with latest Photoshop.

Historically I rename a batch of files and they come out with the new file name and the existing file extension.(NEF). Now I rename the batch and it drops the file extension. The example of what the new file will be named INClUDES the extension, but the ectua files do not. I don't see any checkboxes I have missed. Without the file extension, the files are useless.

I meant the preview button on the right hand side, which is a better indicator than the preview at the foot of the window.

Anyway, I can see that you have a dot/period before the 100, so your system is ignoring the true extension and assuming that .100 is the extension rather than .NEF

I personally don't like using a period character in the filename for just this reason.

I was going to suggest a regular expression based string substitution find/replace, however, you can just search for the period character and replace with an underscore or hyphen or word space, as Bridge is smart enough not to replace the period character at the end of the filename so you shouldn't need to worry about breaking the file extension in the rename.

A cropped screenshot of the batch rename window with the rename in use and also the preview button window showing all files before and after would be helpful.

Adobe generally make it difficult to remove the extension.

Extensions can be added if they are inadvertently removed.
