Bridge CC keeps crashing when viewing folder

I just thought I'd post this here for anyone else that was having this same problem. I recently updated from Bridge CS6 to CC and kept experiencing crashes with CC after viewing one particular folder. I thought it was an issue with CC as CS6 didn't crash with the folder, so I went into problem solving mode to figure it out. First thing I did was go to edit - preferences - cache and purged the cache folder. I then went to the folder that caused the crash and watched the filter - label in the bottom left to see what number it was counting down as it extracted each thumbnail to be cached. Once it crashed I made note of the last number I saw, which was 33. I then went into the folder outside of bridge, counted down 33 files and removed the file from the folder which solved the problem. It appears that the file had become corrupted at some point, so that is why the new CC couldn't make a thumbnail, but CS6 could as it was already on file. So if you are experiencing crashes while viewing certain folders in Bridge, you might want to try this out.

Hi everyone, I don't have time to read all of the posts here, but in answer to the email I got from Adobe's employee Deepak (thanks for this!), I did the following, not knowing exactly what really worked (I have a MacBook Retina 13 inches from 2012 and Sierra 10.12.2) :

         1. I erased the preference files in my library and relaunched Bridge several times : it worked after 5/6 times of the same action, and it seemed that I cannot touch the preferences in Bridge. I had to leave them as "original" cause every time I change anything there it crashes again.

         2. I had a chat with an Adobe expert and he said it might be a problem with the activation and/or the anti-piracy policy. He made me install and use an "Adobe Creative Cloud cleaner tool" and it worked. Well, apparently cause I didn't try to change my prefs just in case because I need to work and this problem lasted 4 days. I must say that I have had these "activation problems" quite a lot on different softwares from Adobe and that I pay my license, so I don't really like to have these kinds of problems. Thing is I also teach on Adobe software and use the Creative Cloud on other computers that are not mine, not forgetting to "turn off" the Adobe activation license on them. This is, along with the "free" upgrades, one of the two interesting features I like in CC, so if it is gonna be a pain in the ass, I don't really see the point for customers. My Creative Cloud App is working well, so I don't see the problem here : why do I have to be bothered by anti pirate  hidden software from Adobe on my OS ???

In conclusion, it might be either the preferences or the Adobe pirate policy, I don't know.

It seems Bridge is still not really stable on Sierra. I have also had many worries (much alike) on Premiere and especially After Effects : it crashes pretty often, making you lose hours of work and creating "corrupted files" with no hope to recover your work.

Worst, when you ask Adobe about this, they say every so often : "it's Apple's fault, and you should get a PC"… Come on !

Thing is, I have had these kinds of problems only with Adobe : none on the other software brands I use are crashing like on a 1998 PC !

Adobe, do you remember when you and Apple were friends, and when professionals were so happy with a Mac and Photoshop 3 ?

You did a really good job on Premiere, making almost everybody, helped by the flaws on FCPX, leave Final Cut behind, so why not keeping on the good work and leave Mac users in peace ? Before CC, we had to pay more expensive software from you just because we were using Macs, so now that it is the same (more expensive) price we have to get PC bugs as well ?

I really like your imagination and your software, and I pay for it, but why do I have to waste so many times on bugs ?

    Thanks for reading me.

    MW.

I'm having the same problem on a Mac (Sierra) with Bridge 2015 AND 2017, it crashed as I launch it, right away. Changing the "Spaces" function like they say here doesn't change anything ! Workaround to fix Bridge CC 6.1.1 and 6.2 crashing on Mac OS X El Capitan

Any other ideas ? I tried almost everything, reinstalled, used older version of Bridge… Still crashed right after I click on its icon !

    Please help !

PS : Adobe keeps telling me to use it on another user, I'm sick of creating users just for them !!!!

    Hi David,

This is a different crash stack for which a bug has already been logged earlier.

Unfortunately, we do not have any workaround for this apart from switching to Bridge CC (6.0 version)

We now have the 21st of August - more than one month after the OSX update 10.11.6.

Is now any conclusion (no workaround) for that problem? I really can neither downgrade OSX (what a absurd idea in terms of security) nor deactive dual display support in Mission Control, because I necesseraly have to use my second screen seperated from my main screen.

If there still is no solution I really am worried about the product and support structure on Adobe.

I really don't like, how some people here are talking to the support (in an abusive and rude way) BUT if you are paying hundrets of € / £ / $ a year for a software, I think that this user can expect to not wait more than four weeks to get support on an issue, which repeats every 2nd or 3rd OS update. And especially for all which are using Apple for designing because of it's function and tradition in design too - these guys are screwed up??

I neither understand Adobe nor Apple in this case, that both cannot work effectively together. Using some community-based or user-orientated software often creates less anger.

Beside Adobe and MS I do really often use small and slim designed software from small factors - and if there is any problem, the help comes up within hours, although many of them do not get hundreds of € / £ / $ every year!

So please really try to return to the wonderful user experience Adobe and the Adobe support gave users in times of CS3 - CS5 and stop that trash-way of beta-development. I really think, that some Battlefield and Gothic developers work at Adobe now :-)

    Same problem for me:

Bridge CC 2015 freezes, if there are mp4 files in the folder.

Not in general, but some mp4 files (created today with a Nexus 5).

mp4 files generated earlier with the same device doesn't seem to force a crash of Bride CC 2015

The older Bridge CS5 works fine with all files and generates the thumbnails without freezing.

    (Bridge CC 2015 6.3.0.177 x64 - Windows 10)

    Hi Maud,

The crash thread indicates dual displays as the reason for crash.

Could you please confirm if you restarted the system after unchecking "Displays have separate spaces" from mission control.

    Hi Gautam,

    Thanks for your answer.

Done already almost 3 times (unchecked - switch off the computer - check if "Displays have separate spaces" from mission control was unchecked - Victory - Fail. Doesn't work for me it seems ;(

This problem has come back after months of reprieve. Crashes over and over again for no good reason, since minor update to Mac OS 10.11.6 (15G31).

The problem is that Adobe is relying too much on caching. Today's computers and networks are fast enough that caching is rarely necessary. All the best search and browsing tools have eliminated caching from their programming (i.e., EasyFind by Devon Technologies).

    I guess I'll try resetting Bridge. >:-(

Affirmative. I reset everything in bridge and started from scratch. It was OK for a while and now it is just crashing over and over again. I don't understand how a minor OS update would cause an application to go so haywire.

    Hi,

Just upgraded to Adobe CC. Bridge keeps crashing while it is populating folders containing only jpegs, eps and .pdfs. It seems to preview about 20-40 images before it crashes. When i reopen Bridge it continues to preview from the point it crashed, then crashes again. Tried a different folder, same issue.
