Question

Bridge continues to generate thumbnails and previews

When I open a folder in bridge, thumbnails and previews are generated of the photos in the folder. If I open another folder and then open the previous folder again, the thumbnails and previews are generated again. Also if I close bridge and then start it again, the thumbnails and previews of every folder I open, are generated again.
In this way bridge works very slowly and is not workable at all.
How can I improve this?

I have the same issue and it seems I found the solution.

For me Bridge do it with raw and dng files where I did local edits in Lighroom (I mainly did radial filter). I used LR 11.1, BR 12.0.2. If I install camera raw 13.4 it worked everything fine, newer camera raw regenerate previews all the time.

Now I installed 14.4 camera raw and LR 11.4 and bridge don't regenerate previews if I "refresh" the xmp file with modofying the local edit in LR. New dng files only works fine, for the old dng files BR regenerate previews.

If you would like to view older files it could be a problem, but with new edits it is working now...

Replying from the future unless anyone stumbles on this like I did. It's 2025 and it's still Not Fixed. Find a replacement for Bridge, It's your only hope.

I don't get why ppl keep asking for case-specific details (what processor are you using? are the raws processed? have you updated to the latest version? etc etc) these pointless questions have ruined many posts like this one, rendering them useless in the search of a solution.

This is clearly a Bridge related problem. It's been this way from years to now and on both mac and windows, and on the most performing machines too. Everybody knows this and if you didn't know about it you could simply read this very forum to learn it.

So please don't answer if you don't have an actual solution or at least a funded idea of what the cause may be.

Bridge is simply unusable as it is and everybody knows it.

I'm not an hater, to be clear, I'd just want bridge to work again.

I have noticed, that this happens only with raw files.
On jpg files it seems to work oke.

And that is a major problem when its connected to Camera Raw.

I have exactly the same problem.

Bridge 12.0.0.234

Windows 10 Home,  Version 21H1, OS build 19043.1348, Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3920.0

And I don't even have to open a new folder.  If I minimise the Bridge window and then maximise it again. thumbnails and previews are generated again each time.  It has an adverse effect on Bridge, slowing it up while previews and thumbnails are generated.

I tried Gary's suggestion but it had no effect.

Hi Corr,

You haven't heard from me because I've been trying to figure out what could be causing your issues/problems.

I do have one (new) question for you: are you using a server or NAS drive? If so, that might be the problem as Bridge was designed to only work with local drives.

Let me know.

Hi Corr,

I'd like you to try a two part settings test.

First go into your Bridge's Preferences and delete all caches on your machine. This is to make sure you're starting out fresh (as it were):

Next, while your preferences are still open, I'd like you to go to the Cache setting and duplicate my settings here, in particular, be sure to have the first option checked.

Let us know how this works out. If it doesn't, please share with us your OS (and what release) and what version of Bridge you are using (and what release).

Good Luck!

Hello Gary,
Thanks for the reply.
I have exactley done the two things you mentioned.
However, the result is the same. Bridge keeps generating thumbnails and previews.
I use macOS Monterey 12.0.1 and Bridge 2022 12.0.0.234
See screenshots.
