Bridge crashes when I select Brush Tool in ACR

Starting a few days ago, having selected an image to edit in ACR I found that choosing the Brush Tool produced an error message: “Bridge has encountered a problem and has to close.” I reported this but have received no advice by email. I deleted Bridge and re-installed: same problem occurs. I’ve cleared the cache: made no difference. I’ve updated PS & ACR: no difference.

Having re-subscribed to Adobe CC only recently I am disenchanted with this persistent fault and zero contact from Adobe.

@jane-e Thanks for your repeated suggestions. The problem solved itself, but don’t ask me why. As I said previously, I had deleted & re-installed Bridge, cleared cache, checked & updated the Intel graphics software etc - but it was a couple of days after this that I found the brush function in ACR was working normally again.

This is a relief, but leaves me wondering why the problem arose and whether it might recur. I don’t like to think that Adobe PS/CC might be flakier than it was. I should add that my PC laptop is a year old, custom assembled by a supplier I’ve used for years, highly specified, regularly updated, and to date wholly reliable.

As a test, try opening a RAW file from within Photoshop to see if the same thing happens. Camera RAW is hosted by either Bridge, Photoshop, or After Effects but is the same engine underneath.

Also, while you are in Photoshop, can you get a system report? Its in the Help menu.

Thanks. I tried your suggestion: I opened a RAW file from PS, it appeared in ACR, I selected the Brush Tool - and the error message appeared as before.

I’m not sure where the system report is that you mention: is it what is called system info under Help, the long list?

Yes that will give us info about your system. At this point we know zero about what configuration you have. Since the crash happens in Photoshop as well, its not a Bridge or Photoshop problem but rather Camera RAW.

Adobe Bridge has their own forum. Can you post to:
