Question

Bridge creating hidden keyword information, only visible in PhotoMechanic.

When keywording photos in Bridge using it's hierarchy system, Bridge writes excess text into my keywords text box that is only visible in Photomechanic. I cannot see these duplicate keywords in Windows nor Bridge. They seem to only be there for Bridge to reference and understand their hierarchy. Are these ACTUALLY keywords? Is there a way to remove them? I have scoured the internet for an answer. Thank you for any help you can give.

What extra metadata? Its writing exactly what you told it to. using hierarchical keywords. If you want flat keywording, turn that option off.

So if one turns off hierarchical keywords that is fine for future keyword tagging… but what to do with all of the images that already have the hierarchical keywords in them? Nobody would wish to clean this up manually. Good news is that I have a Bridge script or ExifTool solution for that!

You have hierarchical keywords on in your prefs. Do you understand the differences between a flat keyword structure and hierarchical? If not Google it for more, there are pros/cons for each method:
