Question

Bridge Deleted RAW Files After Transfer

I was using Bridge 2023 to transfer RAW images from an SD card to an external hard drive. I accidentally hit Command + Z (on a Mac) while working on something else & must have undid the import. Now the files are nowhere to be found on the SD card, external hard drive, recycle bin or anywhere else. Any ideas on where & how to find them?

Hi, @Josh36248477kujw. Jeepers, I'm very sorry to hear that.

First off, this is very confusing becuase I cannot see where/how Command-z could or should do that. Perhaps it was coincidental, not causational. I do not know.

A couple of questions: Since you were in the process of transferring files to an external drive, I'm going to assume you had already assigned Bridge permission to access external drives, Desktops, etc.? Please verify.

There is one setting on Photo Downloader that should NEVER EVER be checked "Delete Originals." Did you have this checked? (Further explanation offered if desired, just ask.)

You can try to reboot your Mac. I'm hoping/suspecting, that the images are there (somewhere) but are not being seen by a software glitch on your computer. You might check into going into "Safe Mode" on your computer, doing that does a series of repair steps if necessary. Since I do not know what release your OS is, I can't advise you of the steps: just google Safe Mode on your System OS and do that.

Under no circumstances should you reformat your camera's card nor use it until you've recovered your images.

I cannot recommend any specific image recovery software as I've not needed one in at least 25 years. I did a quick google search with the phrase "mac software to recover images on an image card" and got a slew of them, a number of those are free. As I'm sure you know, while any file recovery software is taking place, the larger the storage card/drive, the longer this takes. Have lunch, have a good book, just let the software do its thing and sit back. ONLY if the card has been reformated is all hope lost.
