Bridge Downloader Lockup Freeze

I am using the latest version of Adobe Bridge v8.0.1.282 x64, and like all previous versions the Bridge Downloader will lockup on any SD card that has more than about 2500-3000 files on it. You have to split those files over 2 USB drives to downloader to get the photos without locking up.

Is there any workaround for this? If you delete the file count down to something under approx 2800 or so it works fine. the files on the SD card are all fine, they can be copied to other devices without issue. The USB drives and the SD card all use exFat file system.

It's CLEARLY a bug in the bridge downloader itself, it works fine as long as the file count remains below a certain threshold and will ALWAYS lockup when the file count is above a certain threshold, approx 2800-3000 files.

I know for sure SD cards with 2500 files on them work, and those with 4500 files will NOT download.

Any fix or workaround other than the time consuming process of splitting the files across 2 drives is appreciated.

There is no limitation on the number of files that can be downloaded via Bridge.

Also for how long does Bridge lock up at your end with more than 3000 files.

Please also let us know if the issue is across all SD cards that you are using.

To investigate this issue , we would like to know more about your workflow.

It can't be the filesystem or the SD Card. It's not even strictly the number of files on the card. I currently have a SD card with 2878 files on it in 3 folders. 177_PANA, 178_PANA, and 179_PANA. It has this problem it freezes up in Bridge Downloader. I have done cards with MORE than 2878 files before.

Just to check, I tried this same SD card on this SAME PC on the SAME PC CARD READER using Photodownloader.exe from Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer. The same card can be read fine using Photodownloader.exe, Elements 12 organizer, but bridge downloader locks up on it.

The problem with elements 12 organizer is that it will NOT number the JPG and RW2 files in the way you would want, so that they correspond to one another. If I recall it alternates between them so you can't as easily match the RW2 file to its corresponding JPG file after the download.

This HAS TO BE an Bridge downloader issue, but its not just the number of files that does it, maybe its the number of files in a single directory.

Windows can copy all these files quickly, and so can Elements Organizer PhotoDownloader.exe from Photoshop Elements 12.

The directory with the most files is 178_PANA, it has 1948 files in it.

Once again it was a pain getting files off the SD card using Bridge Downloader. Photodownloader would have been fine and fast, windows files copies are fast.

I had to Copy PANA_178 and PANA_179 to the hard drive.

Then delete them from the SD Card.

Then download PANA_177 using Bridge Downloader.

Then delete PANA_177 from the SD Card

Copy PANA_178 and PANA_179 from the hard drive back to the SD Card

Now I can finish downloading from the SD card....

Its a huge pain due to buggy file handling by Adobe Bridge Downloader, LATEST VERSION!!!

I understand that this can be a Bridge limitation as supporting these many files together can freeze the processing.

Anybody bother to read my response.

Its a OS issue.

Unless every file is index by the OS, he OS will chock when trying to delete, move, or copy that many files.

Happens all the time.

Its made worse by the crappy windows USB driver that was written.

System is Windows 10, latest patches, Nvidia gtx 1080 video card with latest drivers. 6TB of hard drive space free on destination, 32 GB of RAM, Intel Core-i9 7900x processor.

You will find that it is a OS limitation, not a Bridge limitation

Try deleting 4000 files off your hard drive and watch what happens.

I'm not aware of a limitation in Bridge for that, but you might have stumbled onto something here. I've alerted someone in the Adobe team about this post, hopefully they are able to confirm/clarify for you.

Meanwhile are you able to provide:

System information (Operating system and version)
Amount of available Hard Drive space and RAM

(I'm not sure if these have an impact, but it might be worthwhile information for clarifying the issue).
