Question

Bridge Export to DNG vs DNG Converter

Hi, because of my recent problem with a failing hard drive in which there where photos that where not backed up yet I finally got more sensitive to the problem of data loss and the whole backup thing.

my backup consists in:

My original Panasonic RW2 + JPG in one of my local hard drives

Original Panasoni RW2 on Amazon Photos

and because I want to not touch hard drives ever again unless I must retrieve or backup some data I absolutely don't want to work directly on those drive with bridge and Camera Raw (since I don't like the whole catalogue thing of lightroom... I've always used camera raw from photoshop, just now I discovered the power of Bridge+CR and love it).

Now... since working with Amazon Photos is too complicate for me, I decided to use it just as backup for originals and because I have a plan of 1TB on OneDrive I had the idea to convert my rw2 to DNG to save space (since on OneDrive I have a space limit) and also to embed edits inside of the file itself preventing edits loss.

Now the question... I noticed a difference in file size if I convert those rw2 to dng from DNG converter or Bridge Export to DNG preset... what's the difference between the two when converting? does both retain raw data or do they demosaicize the file? is there a way can I embed the camera profile inside the DNG instead of the Adobe Standard?

The DNG Converter has many options which are not accessible via Bridge Export. If you need specific settings, just use the DNG Converter.
